Unfortunately, This Is Not "News"
Sadly (and I do mean SADLY), folks are suddenly “discovering” through the headlines of recent unfortunate events the lived experiences of Black women across GENERATIONS. This is not new. It is a pattern… an epidemic.
While I’ve been doing the work—naming what we’re living and bringing it into rooms that don’t always center us...
The truth keeps showing up the same way: the WORLD has not been kind to us… and still, we keep finding ways to be kind to everybody else. Even the ones who hurt us.
And it starts early.
My recent research on the adultification of Black girls makes it plain—before we even grow up, we’re already being groomed to center connection.
So we extend more grace and patience to others.
We become women who know how to hold everything together for EVERYBODY… except ourselves.
Simple message
GIRL, check on you! Not the superwoman you—the human you. And if you’re not okay, don’t you dare feel guilty for choosing yourself.
Be QUICK to get the help. Real help. People with integrity who can hold your hand and guide you right. And I don’t just mean therapists—I mean doctors, lawyers, accountants, psychiatrists, domestic violence advocates, butchers, bakers, candle stick makers… whoever is a PROFESSIONAL that can support your IMMEDIATE needs (cause we prolong them) well with their services and/or products.
Yes, we’re smart. Yes, we’re capable. But we don’t know everything—and we shouldn’t have to. There are people who can see what you can’t and advocate for you when it matters most.
